What is the best beer from North Korea? The most popular beer in North Korea is Taedonggang and that just edges out Cass.

It’s the microbreweries and dark beer market where North Korea outshines its neighboring countries. They have a wide array of restaurants and bars making in-house beers that are loved by locals and tourists alike.

I’ve put together a list of the 5 best beers you can sample in Pyongyang, North Korea.

Five top beers from North Korea and the bars which you can enjoy, without the fear of being taken to prison – I'm joking!

Raekwon Beer Bar Yellow

This classic pale beer is brewed in Raekwon Beer Bar, not only is it one of the most beloved bars but also boasts one of the top selections of beer available at all the bars in Pyongyang.

Yanggakdo Hotel Draft Beer

The hotel is famous because of many reasons, one being its famous beer. The tea house is where you can get it. This beer has been a crowd favorite for years.

Taedonggang Number 6

Taedonggang Restaurant and Pub is world famous for its bottled and craft beer. However, Taedonggang 6 stands out as their primary dark beer, with a lively and flavorful taste.

KITC Mangyongdae

This beer is served at several of the restaurants owned by the Korean International Travel Company (KITC). The brew is somewhat similar to a Carlsberg.

It’s not a great beer, but it’s inexpensive and pairs with most meals.

Koryo Hotel Yellow Beer

This german style Weissbier – Hefeweizen is full of hops, cloudy in color yet lip-smackingly good. Sold at the Koryo Hotel, it is probably the best draft beer you can purchase in Pyongyang. I would say it's definitely worth the trip just to drink a pint.
