There’s no exact temperature that milk needs to be heated to in order to make hot chocolate. It should be heated enough to melt sugar and chocolate. However, not too hot that it burns the milk.
A suitable temperature should be 140oF (60oC). If you want to be able to make it even hotter you can heat it to 160oF (71.1oC).
Naturally, temperatures that are lower can be achieved much faster than temperatures that are higher.
It is a less significant aspect that can affect the duration of heating, however, it’s something to be considered.
If you begin heating milk when it’s not yet cold out of the refrigerator it may take longer to fully heal. If you let the milk reach ambient temperature, the milk will be heated much faster. Particularly large quantities!
But keep in mind that this can take time to complete. Therefore, unless it’s an issue and you’re able to do it in a reasonable amount of time, it can assist to a certain degree.
